Although generally abandoned by contemporary artists, realist painting remains a unique language for expressing thoughts and feelings with subtlety and precision.
Demanding as it is, the technical ability required to make realistic representations is only the first part of acquiring this language. No less demanding is the challenge of how to progress from erratic exclamations, to controlled considered statements.
Many of the Hampshire landscapes shown here have commentaries explaining their intended aims and assessing how successful or unsuccessful were the results.
